smart.grids.forum: Security of supply in focus
The automation of smart grids and their integration into existing networks are the two focal themes at the smart.grids.forum conference held by TÜV SÜD in Munich on 20 and 21 March 2012. The conference enables TÜV SÜD to offer grid operators and manufacturers of automation components a new forum and underlines its expertise in ensuring security of supply in the energy revolution – one of the issues of the future.
How can security of supply be ensured in the future? How can components for automation be integrated into the systems? How 'smart' must electricity grids be, and what about data protection? Smart grids are needed to help accommodate large fluctuations in wind and solar power, both forms of power for which use will increase dramatically over the coming years. For this purpose, the experts are compiling an enormous amount of information about the condition of the grid and the connected power generators and consumers. The details governing data transmission, for example, have been set forth in the IEC 61850 standard. The application of this communication standard in practice is one of the focal themes addressed at the smart.grids.forum, targeting grid managers of energy supply companies, the owners of renewable power stations, energy intensive industrial companies and the manufacturers of automation components.
The automation of distribution grids through smart components will be another core subject discussed at the forum. Grid operators and manufacturers of system components use concrete project examples to show how the electricity grid of the future can be expanded into a powerful and smart grid. Another topic on the agenda of the smart.grids.forum is data protection. To ensure the functioning of the smart grid, data from areas such as power consumption must be collected. The experts provide an overview of all points that must be considered to ensure the protection of these data.
However, the functionality and development of the electricity grids is not limited to a topic of discussion at the new smart.grid.forum. In TÜV SÜD's Munich-based smart-grid testing laboratory, the company's experts carry out extensive tests to ensure the reliable functioning of the smart grid. The experts will contribute their practical experience gained in their daily testing and inspection work directly to the new specialist conference.
smart.grids.forum will take place on 20 and 21 March at the TÜV SÜD headquarters in Munich. For further information and to register, please go to congress@tuev-sued.de or call
