Complex Energy Consulting cuts operating costs

High energy prices not only lead to heated public debates, but may even threaten the survival of companies in energy-intensive industries. TÜV SÜD helps companies discover and tap energy saving potential and thus stay competitive. From 16 to 20 April 2007, TÜV SÜD energy experts present their "Complex Energy Consulting" services at the flagship international trade show Energy at Hannover Messe (Hall 13, stand D67).

Optimizing processes, saving resources and cutting operating costs – Complex Energy Consulting offers companies a host of benefits. Starting points are energy supply and use. "Our interdisciplinary team of system engineers, electrical and building services engineers and engineering physicists analyze these aspects in detail", says Dr Gerd Streubel, TÜV SÜD. Analysis is based on document review, an on-site inspection and complementary measurements. The experts review supply contracts as well as building services systems, system conditions and operating processes. The team then goes on to develop a customized practical concept aimed at saving energy and increasing the efficiency of electricity, gas and other energy carriers. "This concept may focus on suggested organizational changes most of which can be implemented without incurring any additional costs", explains Dr Streubel. "However, recommendations involving larger investments are also possible." In view of soaring energy prices, such investments will pay off sooner than ever.

Savings possible without further investment

Companies in the processing industry, e.g. the chemical industry or the steel and paper industries, in particular, are affected by rapidly rising energy prices. "There is also great savings potential inherent in less energy intensive industries ", emphasizes Dr Streubel, TÜV SÜD. Complex Energy Consulting was successfully implemented, for example, at Oberbruch-based ENKA GmbH und Co. KG, according to their own statements, the world's leading manufacturer of premium viscose filament yarn. There, energy efficiency in the production process was optimized and energy costs thus cut by fifteen per cent. In Warsaw's WARTA Tower, the energy savings potential was fully exploited by improving building services systems – without compromising on comfort. Even without investments, annual operating costs were reduced by eight per cent. "With respect to Warta Tower, further investments will pay off after only one and a half years in view of annual savings amounting to 20per cent", emphasizes Dr Streubel. "In general, our experience shows that net savings for companies are at least twice as high as the cost of Complex Energy Consulting."
