The road to a special licence plate for vintage vehicles

Do you own a BMW 02, a Mercedes SL or an NSU Max? If you get a special plate for vintage vehicles (recognisable by the letter "H" for historic at the end of the number plate), you can use your car without limitation, yet pay an annual tax rate of only EUR 46.02 for motorbikes and EUR 191.73 for all other vehicles.

To qualify for the highly popular "H number plate" your car or motorbike has to be at least 30 years old and considered a culturally valuable motor vehicle. In order to get this special vintage vehicle licence plate, you will need an expert report as requested per article 21c of the German regulations authorising vehicles for road traffic use, StVZO, which you can ask for any time at one of our TÜV SÜD Service Centres.

If your car is well serviced and maintained in or restored to its original condition, there will be no obstacles on its road to being recognised as a vintage vehicle.
