TÜV SÜD Automotive appoints Walter Reithmaier member of the Board of Management
With effect from 1 July 2011, Walter Reithmaier (43) has been appointed member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD Automotive. From this date on, he will manage the company jointly with Dr Ralf Giere. In addition, Reithmaier will head the "Safety and Electronics" business area, which also comprises e-mobility, the theme of the future. Another focus of Reithmaier's responsibilities concerns the expansion of business activities in Asia Pacific. In Thailand, for instance, the company plans to open a testing laboratory for tyres and wheels before the end of 2011.
Appointed as member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD Automotive GmbH: Walter Reithmaier. | After leading the Comfort & Driving Dynamics business area from 2008, the engineer became head of Safety & Electronics at TÜV SÜD Automotive in March 2010. In this position, Reithmaier was in charge of the strategic restructuring of the company in the areas of expertise of functional safety, active safety & reliability, electromobility and passive safety. In his new position as a member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD Automotive, Reithmaier plans to continue on this path, focusing even more strongly on the core business of TÜV SÜD Automotive as an impartial partner supporting the global automotive and transport industry in improving their products and processes. Reithmaier describes his goals as "Further improvement of our strategic services in the fields of homologation, safety and the environment has top priority. Another key issue concerns the expansion of our business activities in Asia Pacific. Our core business there focuses on homologation and functional safety – particularly also in the field of electromobility. In addition, we will open a testing laboratory for tyres and wheels in Thailand before 2011 is out, thus further strengthening our presence in the strategically significant region Asia Pacific." |
In addition to his various other responsibilities, Reithmaier was in charge of establishing the Automotive Division in the Asia Pacific region in collaboration with the local legal entities there over the last years.
Walter Reithmaier has been employed with TÜV SÜD for over 15 years. Between 1998 and 2005 the automotive engineering graduate held various functions in the Tires & Wheels business area, which he headed between 2005 and 2008. Prior to that he had gathered experience as an officially authorized TÜV SÜD motor vehicle inspector. As a recognized specialist, Reithmaier also represents TÜV SÜD on various national and international committees and is a part-time lecturer at the Munich University of Applied Sciences.
