TÜV SÜD Product Service invests in Garching
TÜV SÜD continues to expand its activities at Garching. TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH is investing around 15 million euros in the construction of a new testing laboratory for consumer products, the foundation stone for which will be laid on 27 October 2010. In view of the global competition among testing laboratories, this is a clear commitment to Germany as a base for TÜV SÜD's testing operations. Only two weeks ago, Garching-based TÜV SÜD Batterie Testing GmbH opened a new laboratory for battery testing.
Joachim Birnthaler, CEO of TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH | "The construction of our new product testing laboratory in Garching will further improve our capacities in consumer product testing", says Joachim Birnthaler, CEO of TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH, at the foundation stone ceremony. Construction of the new testing laboratory became necessary as the required expansion of testing capacities proved unfeasible in the existing facilities in Munich. "Garching offers an ideal setting for establishing efficient testing infrastructures and for the long-term expansion of our capacities", adds Dr Jens Butenandt, Member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD Product Service responsible for consumer products. |
The laboratory plus testing facilities and the associated offices in Garching extend over a total of 3,600 square metres. After its opening, scheduled for spring 2013, the laboratory will accommodate over
130 employees.
TÜV SÜD Product Service employs more than 3,000 experts at over 50 locations, supporting the manufacturers, retailers and importers of consumer goods, industrial products and medical devices in accessing international markets. "Product testing is characterized by global competition among the testing laboratories", explains Joachim Birnthaler. "By investing in the construction of a new laboratory and enhancing our performance in the Greater Munich region, we demonstrate our clear commitment to Germany and to securing jobs for this region.“ The TÜV SÜD subsidiary maintains a total of seven competence centres in Germany, in Munich, Straubing, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Frankfurt, Hanover and Hamburg, all with different areas of focus. "Our new testing laboratory in Garching will focus primarily on the testing of household appliances, multimedia equipment, lamps and luminaire products, gardening equipment and tools, bicycles and toys and sports articles", says Dr Jens Butenandt. "A special feature of the new laboratory is the provision of usability tests which, together with conventional safety tests, are the most sought-after by our clients in Germany." The TÜV SÜD Product Service laboratory will commence operations in Spring 2013.
