First energy-efficient enterprise receives certification

TÜV SÜD Industrie Service issues "Energy-Efficient Enterprise“ certification to TD Deutsche Klimakompressor GmbH

TD Deutsche Klimakompressor GmbH was the first German company to receive the "Energy-Efficient Enterprise" certificate issued by TÜV SÜD Industrie Service. TDDK is a subsidiary of the two Japanese companies Toyota Industries Corporation and Denso Corporation and the world’s leading manufacturer of compressors used in car air-conditioning systems.

The certificate is based on an in-depth analysis of the use of resources. Companies benefit from the certification procedure because energy costs make up the majority of operational costs even today, and audits frequently uncover as yet untapped potential for energy savings. "At companies with average environmental awareness, savings between 15 and
30 % are quite frequent," explains Frank Schröter, auditor at TÜV SÜD Industrie Service. "By gaining the certificate, companies document that they are committed to responsible, future-oriented and sustainable economic activities.“ In the future, prospective external partners and investors are likely to set greater store by how products are manufactured.

TDDK – already excellently organised at the time of the audit

Actual potential for saving and its use always also depend on the local and company-specific framework conditions. “Our audit revealed that TDDK has already done a lot to optimise energy efficiency“, says Schröter. "The photovoltaic system on the roof of the production building is an important element of power supply and, over recent years, the company has already embarked on the continuous improvement of its energy management system.“ According to the analysis by TÜV SÜD experts, the heating and hot-water systems still offer potential for savings comprising just over eight per cent of the energy currently consumed.

A company's readiness to improve its energy efficiency also plays an important role. Expanding companies such as TDDK – whose Saxony production site is to be expanded in the near future – in particular face both risks and opportunities. "The subsequent integration of additional installations and systems places special demands on integrated energy planning", explains Schröter. "To maintain optimum overall energy efficiency, the interactions of individual components must be considered at an early stage.“

With its potential for energy saving of significantly under ten per cent and its pronounced commitment to the continuous improvement of efficiency, TDDK has clearly fulfilled all certification requirements. The air-conditioning equipment manufacturer thus sends out a clear signal for sustainable economic activity. A re-certification audit is scheduled for 2010.
